Stephen Armstrong

“New Paintings”

For 20 years, Stephen Armstrong has fed off the Melbourne city as a generous provider of artistic fuel and inspiration. In his paintings, those subjects most familiar to Melbourne residents and visitors receive bold artistic reinvention. Although intensely familiar to the artist – as they are to many – Melbourne’s trams and trains, tracks and roads, buildings and parks are re-presented in a new light. Armstrong reconstructs Melbourne, granting it a new visual identity, inviting viewers to examine the ‘everyday’ with fresh eyes.
