Fiona White's artwork is derivative of the people she encounters and photographs on the streets of New York, Chicago and Sydney. Their life stories and her interactions with them serve as an inspiration for the subject matter. Due to this, the work often has a specific narrative, but also may be interpreted generically as a depiction of the human condition.

The pieces are mixed media; figures are drawn in compressed charcoal, while the other elements are painted in thick layers of acrylic to which several layers of lacquer are added for a high gloss finish that is rich in texture.

As an artist, I am compelled to go beyond a purely visual connection between the artist and viewer, to a place where my work is a catalyst of discussion, challenge, or humor.  My aim is to trigger interaction between the viewer and painting and extrude an interpretation unique to that individual."

Chris Wake was born in Adelaide in 1960, and has been painting since 1976. Her work is represented in private and corporate collections including an art museum in India and international collections.
