Regarded as one of the
country’s most promising young figurative painters, Steve Lopes has
consistently attracted the attention of critics and collectors alike.
After graduating in Fine
Arts at the Sydney College of the Arts, Steve studied in
Royal Institute of Oil
Painters, Britain; twice selected and short listed in the Brett Whitely
Travelling Art Scholarship; three times exhibited in the Archibald Salon des
Refuses.
In just a few years, Lopes
has acquired an impressive list of awards and solid exhibition history which
includes selection in numerous prestigious national juried shows (in the 2006
Doug Moran National Portrait Prize, Steve Lopes made history as the only artist
ever to have two works selected as finalists in this Prize),
He is represented in many
important collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, ACT; BHP
Billiton; Time Warner; NSW State Library, Rolls Royce London, Cable &
Wireless, British BioTech.
