Jill Anderson’s paper-mache
sculpted furniture celebrates the quirky, colourful and decorative. Her work is
designed to be functional, and to delight and surprise. Swirls and whirls of
paper mache transform plain wooden chairs into fantasy functional works of
art.
Amongst her inspirations is
the whimsy of Leunig’s Mr Curly, and wacky Dr Zeuss contraptions.
Jill has been making
sculptural furniture for eight years.
Old wooden chairs have chicken wire armatures added, then a layer of
paper pulp, which dries to a very hard and sturdy finish. The works are then sanded and painted in
exotic Turkish and Asian inspired rich colours.
